ConsoleWorks'
Web-based solution provides secure enterprise-class remote
monitoring and management for systems, networks and virtually any
device that has a serial console port. Using patent-pending Web
server technology, ConsoleWorks supplies the only end-to-end
encrypted remote access to managed devices. The ConsoleWorks
solution will also notify users of events, automatically activate
actions based on the event and log all activity crossing the console
interface. ConsoleWorks centralizes monitoring and management, which
significantly decreases down time, shortens mean time to repair and
increases system and device availability and integrity.
Key Solutions
Remote Access
ConsoleWorks provides access to a managed system or device's console
anytime, anywhere via industry standard Web browsers like Internet
Explorer or Netscape. Additionally, ConsoleWorks supports a command
line interface if needed on slow dialup connections.
Security
ConsoleWorks is the only Web-based monitoring and management
solution that offers end-to-end encrypted connections. With Secure
Socket Layer (SSL) capabilities, Secure Shell (SSH) capabilities,
and various levels of authentication, ConsoleWorks provides the
security required for 21st century computer environments.
Event Notification
Events are text patterns associated with a managed system or device.
ConsoleWorks scans each system and devices' output, compare the text
patterns associated with that system or device, and triggers an
event whenever a match occurs. A collection of related events is
called a scan (internally) or a scan file (externally). ConsoleWorks
has a number of scan files with vendor specific events that it can
watch for on a managed system or device.
Actions
When ConsoleWorks detects an event, it can automatically run actions
associated with that event. ConsoleWorks can initiate actions when
an event occurs, when a user acknowledges that they event has
occurred or when a user dismisses the event. Automatic actions can
easily integrate with its host operating system, e.g., it can use
existing notification software to page and/or Email users when an
event occurs. ConsoleWorks users can also define timeframes to limit
when an action may be executed.
Scan Files
Scan files are collections of events. ConsoleWorks administrators
load scan files into ConsoleWorks where they can be associated with
any number of systems or devices. Event definitions originate from
vendor error messages. TDi created scan files based on each vendor's
definition of the events, its meaning and, most importantly, the way(s)
to resolve the event. Additionally, users may create their own
events and scans to meet site or business specific needs.
High Availability or Failover
ConsoleWorks supports an active-active automatic failover model.
Automatic failover is where two instances of ConsoleWorks monitor
the same console at the same time, allowing any console to be
accessed from either instance. If one ConsoleWorks instance fails,
the other automatically takes over the entire monitoring and
management responsibilities.
Logging and Auditing
ConsoleWorks logs all activity from a managed system or device.
These activity logs provide detailed information showing who did
what, when they did it, and what was changed, added, deleted or
modified within the application. ConsoleWorks can be setup in
failover mode to eliminate any loss of such information during a
hardware failure. Should an instance of ConsoleWorks fail, the
remaining instance immediately assumes control and master ownership
of the managed device. The failover configuration also supports
manual failover mode.
Enterprise Viewer and Enterprise Editor
ConsoleWorks’ Enterprise Viewer is the graphical front end that
can be used to view a company’s entire enterprise from a graphical
perspective. Users value the Enterprise Viewer solution because it
gives a quick over view of what is happening on each device within
the enterprise. If the overview reveals problems on a console,
Enterprise Viewer provides quick connectivity to the console.
Enterprise Editor is the tool used to configure the Enterprise
Viewer. Enterprise Editors ability to use existing graphical layouts
facilitates the configuration of Enterprise Viewer.
